Description: This is a technical symposium for professional home renovators and designers. Marnie Courage, Inclusive Design Consultant with Enabling Access will provide an introduction to the levels of residential accessibility, national initiatives in the area of Home Modifications and how renovators, designers, and occupational therapists can effectively work together with residents to create safe and accessible environments. Pat Acquisto, from Pro Accessibility Ltd. in Toronto, is an accessibility builder and consultant who will be sharing considerations for designing and constructing home renovations and modifications that allow people to Age In Place and create inclusive spaces for people with disabilities. Participants will gain an understanding of the technical challenges faced when renovating or creating accessible bathrooms, kitchens, and entrances. Project samples and expert tips will be shared and products that improve residential accessibility will be showcased by our exhibitors. This Home Modification Symposium has been accepted by the Manitoba Home Builders Association for 3 hours of professional development credit.
Pat Acquisto is an accomplished contractor and homebuilder and has been involved in the construction industry since 1999. After recognizing a need for quality contractors and construction in the accessibility industry, Pat took it upon himself to bridge the gap between healthcare and contractors. As a result, he has dedicated the last 12 years exclusively catering to seniors and individuals with accessibility needs. He is the founder and president of Pro Accessibility Ltd., a renowned company based in Toronto, Canada that specializes in the design, modification, and building of homes and workplaces for people with disabilities or physical limitations.
Pat’s mission is to eliminate the barriers that these individuals face in their daily life and to create environments that are safe and fully accessible. Some of Pat’s certifications include Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) as well as a Building Accessible Excellence Accessor (Excellence Canada). He is also recognized by March of Dimes Canada as an A+ Accessibility Advantage contractor. Pat is a proud member of CAOT-Canadian Association of Occupational Therapist as well as a Board Member of the Canadian Home Builders Association (Home Modification Program).
